This has proved to be a lucrative area for us with the work undertaken by John Carter, who holds the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Typically we are contacted in because the organisation – often smaller in size – has concerns that their approach to health and safety is insufficient.  We undertake a five minute health check to diagnose the current status and then share our view on the key areas that they need to focus on.  This often includes undertaking a risk assessment and the creation and/or refreshing of their health and safety policy and work procedures

Usually we work with them in the agreed areas, training and supporting their designated ‘competent person’.  Whilst we highlight gaps in their approach we are there to help, not judge.  We do not use clipboards, lecture or speak another language.  Because we have business backgrounds we recognise that though business leaders understand and recognise that they have a duty of care to employees and customers – and want to do ‘the right thing’ – health and safety is often down their priority list as they focus on running the business.

So we look to ease that burden provide a pivotal support service in overseeing and coordinating much of the background work and writing it up in an Health and Safety Executive approved structure.

Feedback suggests that our contribiution is much valued.

Finally, it’s important to emphasise that the organisation ultimately sign offs, owns and control the content of the documentation.
